Dr. Mpanga Derrick Dennis

Dr. Derick Denis Mpanga is the Head of Clinical Trials at AMBSO and a member of the organization’s Senior Management Team (SMT). In this capacity, he provides strategic, scientific, and operational leadership for AMBSO’s clinical research portfolio, overseeing the implementation of complex multicenter studies while ensuring the highest standards of scientific excellence, participant safety, regulatory compliance, quality management, and data integrity.

Dr. Mpanga has extensive experience leading and supporting a broad range of clinical trials and implementation research programs across HIV prevention, pediatric HIV, cancer research, population health surveillance, and health systems strengthening. Prior to his current role, he served as Associate Coordinator for the PURPOSE 1 Trial and study coordinator for COBI study at AMBSO, where he played a pivotal role in the successful implementation and coordination of one of this global landmark HIV prevention Trial. His expertise includes clinical trial operations, protocol implementation, pharmacovigilance, research ethics, quality assurance, and multidisciplinary team leadership.

He holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from Kampala International University and a Master of Public Health (MPH) from Liverpool John Moores University, United Kingdom and also completed specialized training in Clinical Trial Monitoring through the ClinWin–KAVI Institute of Clinical Research in Kenya.
