This study examines how childhood adversity affects mental and physical health outcomes among Ugandan youth. Using mixed methods, the study will combine analysis of longitudinal APHS cohort data (2018–2023) with qualitative interviews and focus group discussions. Findings will inform policies and interventions aimed at improving youth mental health, reducing violence, and strengthening support systems in Uganda.
To determine the prevalence of childhood adversity by Examining patterns and health impacts of childhood adversity among all groups in the study population using APHS data (2018–2023).
To examine links with mental health by evaluating associations between VAC and IPV and mental health outcomes.
To investigate associations between childhood adversity and HIV- and TB-related outcomes.
To explore lived experiences and coping: Qualitatively examine experiences of adversity to inform strategies for improving health of children, adolescents and young adults in Hoima and Wakiso
To identify culturally grounded, community-informed strategies to reduce VAC and promote wellbeing by synthesizing qualitative and quantitative results.
