Africa Medical and Behavioral Sciences Organization (AMBSO) has officially commenced the construction of a state-of-the-art research complex at its Nansana office following a groundbreaking ceremony held on 25th July 2026.
The event brought together members of the Board of Directors (BOD), the Senior Management Team (SMT), staff, project stakeholders, and the successful contractor to celebrate a major milestone in the organization's continued investment in health research infrastructure.
The new facility is designed to strengthen AMBSO's ability to conduct world-class research while supporting the delivery of quality healthcare services. Once completed, the complex will include modern research laboratories, a pharmacy, research clinics, and a dedicated administration block, creating an integrated environment for research, innovation, and organizational operations.
A significant highlight of the ceremony was the official handover of the construction site to the contractor who was awarded the project following a competitive procurement process. The handover formally marked the commencement of construction works and the beginning of a project that is expected to transform AMBSO's research capacity for years to come.
During the ceremony, AMBSO leadership described the project as a strategic investment in the organization's mission of advancing health research and improving lives through evidence-based interventions. They noted that the new facility will provide researchers, healthcare professionals, and support teams with modern infrastructure that meets the growing demands of scientific research and clinical excellence.
Members of the Board of Directors reaffirmed their commitment to supporting initiatives that strengthen institutional capacity and ensure that AMBSO remains at the forefront of research aimed at addressing pressing public health challenges. The Senior Management Team echoed this commitment, emphasizing the importance of investing in facilities that foster innovation, collaboration, and excellence.
The groundbreaking ceremony also served as an opportunity to appreciate the collective efforts of the Board, management, partners, and staff whose dedication and support have made the project a reality. Their shared vision continues to drive AMBSO toward sustainable growth and greater impact in the communities it serves.
As construction progresses, the organization looks forward to the completion of a modern research complex that will enhance its ability to conduct cutting-edge research, support clinical trials, strengthen pharmaceutical services, and improve operational efficiency. The facility is expected to become a centre for scientific excellence, contributing to improved health outcomes in Uganda and beyond.
The groundbreaking of the Nansana Research Complex represents more than the start of a building project it is the laying of a foundation for future discoveries, stronger partnerships, and lasting impact in health research.
