Strengthening Institutional Capacity for Research Administration

The collaboration between the Africa Medical and Behavioral Sciences Organization (AMBSO) and Strengthening Institutional Capacity for Research Administration (SICRA) in Lira is a key initiative to advance clinical research and address local health challenges. By combining AMBSO’s public health and behavioral sciences expertise with SICRA’s research administration framework for the conduct of clinical trials, this partnership enhances the effectiveness and efficiency of both epidemiological research and clinical trials research.

The collaboration emphasizes knowledge sharing and capacity building through training programs, workshops, and mentorship, empowering local researchers and healthcare professionals. This holistic approach not only advances scientific knowledge but also fosters leadership and sustainable research infrastructure in the region

Lead Collaborator

Dr. Francis Kiweewa, MD, MMED, MPH, is the Executive Director of the Strengthening Institutional Capacity for Research Administration (SICRA) in Lira. With a distinguished career in clinical research, Dr. Kiweewa specializes in vaccine research, HIV therapeutics, infectious diseases, and non-communicable diseases. His leadership at SICRA has been instrumental in building robust research frameworks and enhancing the capacity for high-quality clinical trials in Uganda. Dr. Kiweewa also collaborates closely with the African Medical and Behavioral Sciences Organization (AMBSO), he served as the Principal Investigator on the SIENA study that AMBSO conducted at her research site in Hoima. His roles involved overseeing the study’s design, implementation, and analysis, ensuring that it meets rigorous scientific and ethical standards. Through this collaboration, Dr. Kiweewa contributes significantly to advancing clinical research and fostering sustainable healthcare solutions in Africa.
